Thoughts from May 2013

innocent and GIY Sow & Grow winners

The innocent and GIY Sow & Grow project is coming to an end this week. This spring over 25,000 kids in schools and youth groups around Ireland got their hands mucky to grow their own. Over 850 growing packs were sent out to lovely teachers who taught the children all about the importance of growing vegetables.

A huge thank you to all those who got involved. We were so impressed by the amazing growing and creativity. It was really hard to pick the winners but here in fruit towers, with the help of GIY, we managed to pick three very deserving winners. They were chosen based on some important criteria; making growing fun, imagination and creativity, integrating growing into class work, cooking with the produce and of course, success in growing.

The prizes:

1st Prize: A trip to Bloom Festival and Dublin Zoo, €500 of gardening equipment, one year mentorship from a GIY gardener and a meet and greet at Bloom with Donal Skehan

2nd Prize: €400 of gardening equipment and a visit from a GIY member

3rd Prize: €300 of gardening equipment and a visit from a GIY member

The 1st prize goes to the Miss Forde’s 1st class in St Kevin’s GNS, Kilnamangh, Tallaght. Have a look at all the fun they had with the project over on their growing diary. We especially love their latest news report. The girls will be heading to Bloom on Friday be presented with their trophy from the lovely Donal Skehan.
