Lights out for Earth Hour

WWF's earth hour is this saturday 31st march at 8.30pm

This Saturday is WWF's Earth Hour, when hundreds of millions of people, businesses and retired wrestlers around the world will be turning off their lights at 8.30pm to show their support for the planet. So whether you fancy a nice moonlit walk, a bit of dancing in the dark or a candlelit meal with friends, just make sure you switch off the lights and any other electrical items you can do without (perhaps not the freezer) at 8.30pm sharp. And hopefully while the lights are off, it will get us all thinking about what we can do beyond the hour to help protect this brilliant world we live in.

Super slimmer

Back in 2009, changes at our factory meant that our little smoothie bottle had to go from 17g to 23g. Our packaging team worked hard to get the weight down to 20g in 2010, but getting back to 17g proved really difficult (it’s always the last few grams that are the hardest to shift).

17g-bottle

So now, we're happy to announce that we’ve finally cracked it, and after a strict January detox and countless lunges and squats, our little bottle is back down to 17g and looking great. We're always looking for way to reduce the environmental impact of our packaging, and lightweighting is one of the best ways we can do this. By stripping 15% off the weight of this bottle, we’ll save around 300 tonnes of carbon in 2012. Nice work Team Packaging.

Win tickets to The Muppets

MUP_ENG_4C_01AF

It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights….

We’re super excited here in Fruit Towers. The Muppets are back. The Muppets hits Irish cinemas on the 10th February 2012 and we’ve got family tickets to give away to the preview screenings. They take place in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway & Belfast on Sunday 5th February at 11am.

On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world's biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets' former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With secret, signature, celebrity cameos.

We’ve been fighting over our favourite Muppets here in Fruit Towers. Ali loves Miss Piggy, Tim’s a Fozzie Bear man, Helen chose Animal (she likes beards), Keith voted for Beaker and Brendan adores the Swedish Chef.

To win a family pass to a preview screening of The Muppets, tell us your favourite Muppet and where you’d like to see the movie (Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway or Belfast).

Congratulations to all our lucky winners who get tickets to the preview screening of The Muppets this Sunday 5th February.

A hamper full of smoothies...

To celebrate the launch of our new smoothie carton sizes we had a competition (see below) to give away a hamper full of (you guessed it) smoothies.

We had a lot of entries and a lot of correct answers. We really must make our questions a little trickier. The correct answer is "Strawberries and Bananas".

The lucky winner is Emer Breen.

Thanks to everyone who entered and stay tuned as we'll have another competition soon.

-----------------------------

There's no better way to celebrate the launch of our new smoothie carton sizes than...you've guessed it, giving away some smoothie cartons. We've a smoothie hamper up for grabs for one lucky reader. How do I win, you might be asking. Well, just post a comment below with your answer to the following (pretty easy) question and we'll announce the winner next week.

Question: What smoothie recipe made an appearance in last Mondays blog post?

Hint, look at the picture.
