plastic FAQs

We answer your questions about our bottles.

Why do you use plastic bottles? Why don’t you use cartons or glass?

At the moment, plastic is the most sustainable option for our bottles. It has a lower carbon footprint than glass and is much easier to recycle than cartons. All of our bottles are fully recyclable, and all contain at least 30% recycled plastic.

Will you stop or at least reduce your use of plastic? What is your goal?

Our goal is to make our packaging as sustainable as possible. It always has been. At the moment, plastic is the most sustainable option for our bottles. All of our bottles are fully recyclable, and all contain at least 30% recycled plastic. Our goal is to have 100% renewable bottles by 2022 (made from plant and recycled plastic).

Why not 100% recycled plastic?

We made a 100% recycled plastic bottle in 2007, but realised it wasn’t very sustainable in the long run. The quality back just wasn’t up to scratch so we pulled it back. You can find out a bit more about our plastics journey in our story so far.

Are your lids recyclable too?

Yep, just like the rest of our packaging, our lids can be recycled. Find out more here.

and if you were wondering about our straws...

why do you use plastic straws?

Plastic is currently the best option for our straws. It is more durable than other types of straws and they’re fully recyclable, you just need to pop them inside the carton when you’ve finished the drink. However, we understand the risk that not all our straws are recycled so are currently looking at alternatives, watch this space.

Would you consider an alternative to plastic? Are you looking into this?

We are looking at alternatives for our plastic straws. There doesn’t appear to be an easy solution but we are on the case. In the meantime they can be fully recycled by popping them into the carton. We’re excited to be part of the recycling revolution kicking off in the UK which should ensure more straws end up in the right place.

Are your straws made from recycled plastic?

Our straws are made from Polypropylene (PP). At the moment recycled PP isn’t safe from a food hygiene point of view. Our straws can be recycled, though - they just need pushing into the empty carton and popping in the recycling bin.

Do you need a wrapper? Is the wrapper recyclable?

At the moment it’s not possible (or hygienic) to put the straws onto the carton without the outer wrapper. Both the straws and the plastic wrapper can be recycled by pushing them into the empty carton and popping it in the recycling.
